For most of my life I have followed Groucho Marx’s philosophy, “I would never belong to a group that would accept me as a member. But there is one exception and that is the United States Basic Income Guarantee. I am on my way to its yearly conference in New York. Participants in this group are united around a single idea, that everyone should receive a regular, unconditional grant of money. The rationales of the group vary greatly, but the commitment to this universal cash grant is shared by all.
